Black Mirror

Art project

They all carry a small black mirror in their pockets. They have one each but they have many more. They have some at home, some in the car, some at the office. They look at them all day long. And they switch from one to another. And their reflection gets absorbed instead of projected. And their minds get bound instead of liberated. And all these magic mirrors that feed on consciousness and doubt hold truths beyond the comprehension of ourselves.

Grandmother

Documentary

The circle of life and the circle of memory. From birth to giving birth. From giving birth to witnessing the birth of grandchildren. Three adulthoods, three ages and three experiences of legacy compiled into one story. The story of a grandmother. The story of The Grandmother. Told by my grandmother. And other grandmothers that shared their life and their most vivid memories about the past.

Choice #7

Short film

Hold on for that big moment. The only moment you’ve been waiting for such a long time. The moment you have been preparing yourself for your whole life. Then, one day, your phone will ring. And we will give you the time. And you will put on your dress. And the shoes you received. And a car will pick you up. And you will come here. And it will be your moment of glory. And you will bravely play your part. And you will become perfect.

When you work at Handsome you are handsome and all the people see you as such. This young fashion and luxury film production company has an amazing showcase of directors. Their work is very hip yet very chic. I have designed their identity and their website. Some amazing films inside. My favourites : Original is Never Finished and Your Future is Not Mine by Terence Neale.

Creative Art Direction | Set Design

My work as a creative art director and junior set designer is so inspiring because I am brought not only to find ideas but also build them as I see fit. For this film I have collaborated closely with the set designer and the director in order to design a modern architect house, a garage band, a food truck, a conference room, an office and a magazine.

Creative Art Direction | Set Design

After a long process of exchanging script ideas with the director and getting them validated by the creatives we finally flew to Cape Town for the shooting. We built a jazz club in the lobby of an old bank – on the stage, the instruments played by themselves. We built a mirror cube in the desert. We recreated the univers inside a studio set. Great project !

DBD’t

Contemporary Art Direction Studio

Do but don’t means walk the line. It’s about boundaries and extremes. Escaping routes. And unexplored territories. It’s about the paradox of the absurd in correlation with the contemporary society. It’s about shock. And vivid experiences. And the contradictions that shouldn’t exist. And the relationship between what we do and what we don’t. What we know and what we ignore. What we think we can do and what we think we couldn’t. It’s about the concrete and the imaginary, somewhere between advertising and art.

& Creative Art Direction

Up to eighty five percent of our information intake is visual. That is why I think that producing images should be treated with the utmost importance. And, as all languages are intertwined with imagery and representations, in order to communicate an idea with precision, all the means employed in it’s making should, in my opinion, become invisible. That could be the definition of a perfect illustration : it becomes a reality in itself that doesn’t dissonante with our perception and our understanding.

I have put up a selection of visual treatments I made on the left. I have worked as a creative art director on two of these projects: Renault Koleos & Renault Mégane. Besides the visual research my job was accompanying the director in finding interesting script ideas and settings.

There is also Profetie, a short film that I co-wrote with a good friend of mine, Adrian Dan.

GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDIO

The idea behind DoDesignButDon’t is simple – it’s explanation is contained in the name and translates to: as little design as possible. For me, good design is unobtrusive and almost invisible. Therefore perfect design should be perfectly invisible. That was my goal while doing all these identities, websites and prints.

ART

OBJECTS / CONCEPTS / FEELINGS

In November 2011 I graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Paris. I was a student in the workshop of my beloved teacher and friend Jean-Luc Vilmouth. Along with my Diploma I have received the Congratulations of the Jury. In June 2012 I presented a pièce in the exhibition titled Géographies Nomades, curated by Chatal Pontbriand that was called The End.

Until that point my artistic practice was based on a continuous collaboration with Alina Turco. We formed a duo of artists and we worked together on all of the projects including the last one I mentioned, project which symbolically marked the end of our working together.

Around here you can see a selection of pièces from that period.

ABOUT ME

CREATIVE ART DIRECTOR / FILM DIRECTOR

I don’t really know who I am. And I think very few people do. But I suppose I am here to find out, so I’m enjoying this crazy ride and trying to make the best of it. My favourite sense is sight. And my favourite colour orange. Images have always fascinated me : as icons that encapsulate common meaning and emotion. And I always found pleasure in creating visual arrangements of all sorts. As most of our language is perceived through sight I think that mastering a visual expression supposes precise observing of every aspect of life. In other words, it demands a continuous presence of mind as well as always living in the moment. Nice meeting you and thanks for your visit. V
